Reasons for Marriage Investors:

The 2000-2001 United Way of Johnson County Needs Assessment identified family breakdown and divorce as the number one problem facing Johnson County.

In year 2003, the number of divorce filings in Johnson County totaled 905, while the number of marriage licenses filed, totaled 986. Additionally, 67 couples did not return marriage license applications. (Johnson County Clerk’s office, 2003).

According to a Franklin College study, the most commonly cited reasons for divorce in Johnson County included:

A. Poor communication around the following issues:

........1. Finances

........2. Parenting

........3. Amount of time spouse spends at work

B. A lack of premarital counseling. More than 82% of divorced couples received no premarital counseling.

C. A cycle of divorce. More than 90% of the couples had one or both sets of their own parents  divorced.
